Overview
On June 27, 2013 Drs. David Germano and Galen Rathbun will present a comprehensive training on the biology and conservation of the western pond turtle (Actinemys marmorata). The instructors have published reports and papers on the ecology and life history of this species, and their lecture summarizes the knowledge base on the ecology and conservation of the species.
Intended Audience
Biological consultants, land managers, researchers, and regulatory agency personnel.
Workshop Objectives
- Understanding of the biology of Western Pond turtles
- Understanding of habitat management for this species
- Understanding of how to apply information in large scale and local conservation planning efforts
Topics Discussed
- Aquatic and terrestrial habitats and their management
- Individual movement patterns
- Population and community ecology
- Survey methods
Workshop Format
The training consists of classroom lecture and lab with hands-on opportunities with the species. Because our training site does not have easy access to natural populations in the field, this training does not have a field-based training component.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The fee for this 1 day workshop is $285; the fee includes refreshments, lunch, and materials. You may pay now by credit card (via our web site upon registration) or send a check payable to the Elkhorn Slough Foundation mailed to:
