Water Words That Work

January 22, 2013

8:30am – 2:30pm

Solari Green Technology Building

318 Union St., Watsonville

Objective:

Attendees learned the language that everyday citizens understand, and became more confident as they set out to enlighten the uninformed and persuade the undecided to take a stand or take action on behalf of the environment.

Agenda:

Part 1:  Understand the perspective that everyday citizens have on nature protection and pollution control, and discover the shocking secret of what motivates them to take action.

Part 2:  Learn the first steps of the “Environmental Message Method,” a process for transforming professional language into action language that will help make fundraising, issue advocacy, and behavioral change campaign a success.

Part 3:  Conservation and controversy go hand in hand.  Sooner or later, the mud will fly and your work and your relations will be on the line.  In this training, entitled “Combat Communications for Conservationists,” attendees honed skills needed to set the record straight and come out on top!

Audience:

This workshop was for people who need to communicate with public audiences about water resources, watershed management and land conservation.

Goals:

Attendees learned to turn passive “environmental awareness” into pro-environmental behavior. They learned  how to create and deliver messages that will reach their target audience and inspire them to action.
