Description

Students of this course will learn the differences in layout and fundamental processes between ESRI ArcMAP and ESRI ArcGIS PRO through guided exercises. Each exercise will contain text and media, as well as hands-on tasks to support student learning. These hands-on portions will utilize publicly available data to allow students to practice real-world GIS processes and workflows in the ArcGIS PRO software. This practice will help students transition as ArcMAP users to also being ArcGIS PRO users.

Workshop Objectives

By attending this course, participants wil learn:

1) How to convert Arc Desktop map projects to Pro

2) Best strategies for storing/managing ArcPro projects and databases

3) Best practices for arrangement/docking/auto-hiding of windows

4) How to build a geodatabase, import attributes, and set attribute functionality like subtypes vs domains

5) Best practices for using the Editor tools (snapping, streaming, topology, minimum mapping, etc.)

6) A symbology overview

7) Labeling

8) Converting 2d maps to 3d

9) Final map layout tips and tricks

10) Tips and tricks on cleaning Union products

Experience Pre-Requisite

This course is designed for students who have some previous training or working experience in GIS. It is primarily for those who have worked with ArcMAP and want to transition to ArcGIS PRO. Students who have GIS experience in other software will also find this course a useful introduction to ArcGIS PRO software.

Course Format and Technology Requirements

This workshop will be held entirely online. Participants will need ArcGIS Pro 2.6 or 2.7 installed on their computer. The lecture will take place on Zoom, and there will be individual exercises interspersed throughout.

Registration details

This workshop is being offered by invitation only. If you are interested in attending, please email grant@elkhornslough.org to request an invitation code.

Please note -you can pre-register via this website, but your registration will not be finalized until we receive your registration fee. Payment can be either in the form of a credit card or a check made payable to the Elkhorn Slough Foundation and sent to:

Elkhorn Slough Foundation

ATTN: Coastal Training Program

1700 Elkhorn Road

Watsonville, CA 95076

Deadline for payment is May 19 at 5 pm.  If we have not received your payment at that time, your place may be forfeit to someone on our waiting list.

We ask you not to cancel after the registration deadline; if you sign up, please show up so as to not waste valuable resources. Repeated failure to adhere to these policies may jeopardize a person’s future ability to enroll in our programs.

We do not allow third party registration- register only yourself!  Registration is email sensitive; registering others frequently results in cancellation, missed communication, and other issues.

Because large, wealthy organizations have in the past reserved large blocks of seats, excluding others from attending, only to cancel those reservations, we do not allow registration 'trading,' even to persons within the same organization.

Please let us know as soon as you know if you have registered and cannot attend as there is usually an extensive waiting list for our trainings and we use substantial funds to subsidize workshop expenses, helping to make them more affordable.
