Remote sensing plays a large role in geospatial analysis and the enhancement of geographic information systems. This course provided students with the knowledge and practical experience necessary to develop a thorough understanding of the basic principles, techniques and applications of remote sensing.  Students learned about digital image acquisition, processing, display and analysis with a focus on environmental monitoring and natural resource management.  Emphasis was placed on the use of digital replique montre satellite image data. Topics included basic air photo interpretation, the electromagnetic spectrum, spectral response curves, sensor and image characteristics, image display, image transformations, image classification and data acquisition.

Participants should have had introductory knowledge of Geographic Information Systems before attending this course.

Class format: approximately 50% lecture, 50% lab exercises.

Objectives:
1.    Developed an understanding of the basic principles, techniques and applications of remote sensing.
2.    Learned the basics of manual air photo interpretation
3.    Understood the physical replique tudor basis of multispectral imagery and strength of working with multiple bands.
4.    Transformed and classified imagery using ENVI software for use in a GIS.
5.    Learned how to acquire and import multispectral imagery.

* For certified planners, 16 units of Certification Maintenance (CM) credits through American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) were available for this course. Those seeking such credits should contact us for more information.
